New England meets South Florida in this $5.2-million coastal mansion on Davis Islands

Just like a lobster roll can easily go with a slice of key lime pie, the architectural styling of Newport, RI and Key West, Fla. can make for one delightful combination. The coastal elements of each region were used to concept what might be one of the most remarkable homes ever designed by Michelle Jennings Wiebe of StudioM Interiors.

The 3-year project started in 2009 when StudioM and Monogram Builders were hired to design and build this dream home on Davis Islands. Jennings Wiebe said the homeowners handed her photographs of properties that inspired them during their travels and gave her complete creative control over the design process. She worked side-by-side with Monogram and BDG Architects of Tampa to not only sketch the interior, but also configure a sleek and contemporary floor plan for the home. At 10,000 SQ FT, it’s streamlined and cozy, with a layout that vibes with the look and feel of both a southern mansion and a mountain villa.

The many highlights of the home include a private gentleman’s retreat; a custom chandelier with a motorized lift; a lanai that features a pool with sun shelf, hot tub and an outdoor kitchen with a wood-burning pizza maker; and artwork produced locally exclusively for this property.

In Nov. 2012, the home sold for $5.2-million, the highest in Hillsborough County that year. The new homeowners requested the home be sold “as is.”
