Honor Culpepper, 14, has played almost every sport you can think of – softball, tennis, flag football, volleyball, soccer and basketball. She has been on a track team and a cheer team. She’s also an academic all-star who played percussion in her school’s band and performed with them at county competitions.
Honor says that competing and playing sports has given her the opportunity to meet many new people who have become great friends, and being part of a team has also given her confidence in the classroom.
“Playing sports has helped me learn how to be a good leader and how to communicate with people,” she said. “It has also taught me to listen to criticism and learn from it.”
“Honor is the definition of commitment, brought to life,” said Woodrow Wilson Middle School Principal Colleen Faucett. “She excelled in her academics and played all four of our intramural sports each year for all three years of middle school. In addition, she played in the band and the percussion ensemble. As her principal, it was a joy to watch her grow into a lovely young woman who will go far in life because she truly understands that effort equals achievement.”
Honor hopes to play basketball this fall when she attends Plant High School and is looking forward to new challenges in the classroom and on the court.
“When you find a sport you love, that is what you always want to be doing,” she said.
